Announcing Hosted Tmux

Our goal is to make a 10x better UNIX CLI experience
How are we planning to do that? Read on to find out the details, or head over to hostedtmux.com and sign up to be an early customer (plans start at only $4.99 / mo, free 30 day trial, initial places very limited).
Private, Persistent UNIX CLI
Many old-hand UNIX users have a shell server somewhere ("personal cloud" if you will) on which they run a tmux process.
They SSH in, attach, run their programs, and detach when necessary. If forcibly disconnected from the shell server (computer crash, network issue) their remote tmux process maintains state on their behalf.
This turns out to be incredibly useful for any important work. Worried about losing output? In the middle of an important job? Tmux has you covered.
The first feature of hosted tmux is a private, secure tmux in the cloud. You don't need to maintain your own VPS just for this task. We do it for you.
SSH, MOSH and Mobile Web access
Hosted tmux support SSH access, just like a shell server.
We also support the amazing MOSH protocol developed at MIT. MOSH has a number of advantages over plain SSH, in particular for high-latency connections such as 3g. Many phone & tablet SSH clients (including iSSH on iOS) now support MOSH protocol.
With our MOSH plans, you effectively get a private MOSH gateway to all your other servers. We run the MOSH server for you, so you don't have to set it up, configure it and maintain it on all the machines you want to connect to. Especially since MOSH requires UDP ports open, this can be a big win.
Additionally, we provide a very nice Web-based interface. Not only do we give access to the terminal with full in-browser VT100 emulation, we also have a novel mobile UI which is optimized for touch. So it makes easy things like:
- Quickly checking the status of your various tmux windows on your smartphone
- Running a shell macro
- Editing code from anywhere with a browser via Vi/Emacs
- Searching output logs & command history across all sessions
Today, you have to open an SSH app, enter your password details, and type keypresses to do this kind of stuff on your phone/tablet. Overall, very clunky. We have an interface that exposes all these common operations in a way idiomatic to touch devices.
Of course, our web interface also works great on desktop browsers!
We also plan to support 2-factor auth, multiple users (including read-only users), screen-sharing ("watch me triage this performance problem in production") & ACLs for a kind of "bastion host in a box" experience.
Searchable Output Logs & Command History - Across Sessions
Have you ever wanted anything like the following:
- Wished you had piped the output of a program to a log file
- Search for a particular irssi conversation from last week
- Search complete command history across all sessions
- View an audit trail for all commands entered across all admin accounts on all machines
We can store and index all this data for you, automatically, and provide a search interface to retrieve it.
Interested in Early Access?
We are currently letting in only a very small number of initial customers. If you'd like to be one, visit hostedtmux and sign up. Plans start at $4.99 / mo and you get a free 30 day trial.
